[horrifically earnestly, gripping optimus's hand with both of his own now:] I would do anything for you.
[you know, if this was anything other than a reunion megatron had not expected to ever happen, he might get a little huffy about that question... but it would seem even he isn't that petty. the bar may be in the ground but he didn't trip over it this time! megatron simply vents out, incredibly tired, the way he always is these days. nothing that happened is anything he wants to tell optimus after he's just got back, but-- optimus can take it. he deserves to know, considering his matrix was used as a shiny piece of bait.]
Things got complicated, but it was nothing I couldn't manage. [is that strictly true? he failed to kill writhe while they had the best chance to do it and doesn't even know if they truly left the cathedral. this remains in the "don't think about it right now" box.] Ba-- Raid was there, in the end, to oversee the creation of a new Slaverlord. He's a Quintesson, of all things, and an extremely obnoxious one at that.
"A Quintesson." Optimus repeats gravely. "I suppose it was too much to hope that the Quintessons would cease to be a problem after defeating them in our own timeline."
It would be easy to fall into a long conversation about this, to talk on and on about the grave things that make up our world, but, for once, Optimus wants to put that aside for now.
"Perhaps we can discuss this later." Optimus says, pulling his husband close so that he can gently press his forehead to his. "I missed you. Even when I returned to a timeline where I did not remember what happened here, I missed you. I hope we are not parted again."
No matter how he feels about any potential complexities with the Cathedral, Megatron does not stop Optimus pulling him close. He shutters his optics as he rests his forehead against the Prime's, and hooks his arms around his waist.
"I missed you too," He says quietly, almost telling Optimus not to make any promises this time. He doesn't, though, because he knows that's something that would just make him feel terribly guilty, and unnecessarily so. He doesn't try to keep talking about the troubles they face here, either. It can wait, at least for now. "I do not like being apart from you. It feels very wrong."
Quieter, still: "I love you. I hope you don't let something as simple as being a universe away make you forget that."
